A New Era of Cricket
This year marks the 4th year of the latest edition of cricket The Hundred, a 100-ball cricket tournament, thrilling and fast-paced it's an event that has captured the attention of cricket fans worldwide. It began on 23rd July and wraps up at Lord’s cricket ground cricket ground for the final once again on 18th August. This innovative format of cricket was designed in order attract more investment and diverse range of audiences to the game and it has been a resounding success since its inception in 2021.
The tournament features eight teams representing major UK cities, replacing the traditional county structure. These changes have brought a fresh perspective to the game, appealing to both long-term fans and newcomers alike. The schedule involves both men and women’s tournaments running simultaneously, with the two matches taking place on the same day and the same venue one after another.
What happened last year & current standings
After two years of dominance by the women's side, the Oval Invincibles claimed the men's Hundred title last season. The London-based franchise won an impressive six out of eight group matches and have retained most of their key players, making them strong contenders for another championship. So far this season, they've won three out of four games, with their only loss coming against the Northern Superchargers. The Superchargers, along with Southern Brave, have also had a strong start with three wins each. In the women's competition, Welsh Fire currently leads the standings with just one loss, which came against the Oval Invincibles.
